On 22 February 2010 TransGrid, the NSW transmission operator, will commence construction on its new high voltage power line to connect Glen Innes with Inverell.
A result of joint planning with Country Energy, TransGrid’s $25 million project involves building 11km of new transmission line near Glen Innes and rebuilding 55km of existing line between Glen Innes and Inverell.
“This project means both Glen Innes and Inverell will be connected to the electricity grid via an additional high voltage link, making power supply to the region more reliable,” said Mr Dany Gittani, Senior Project Manager at TransGrid.
“The new electrical link will also provide a second connection between the existing Country Energy and TransGrid substations near Glen Innes, to improve supply for residential and commercial customers in the area,” said Mr Gittani.
“Construction works will commence at Glen Innes and progress west to Inverell over the coming months,” he said.
“We’d like to thank the community for their co-operation and understanding during the construction period of this important project.”
The project is part of a larger plan to strengthen the north west of TransGrid’s transmission network, following the completion of TransGrid’s new substation at Glen Innes in 2007.
