TransGrid
TransGrid is now finalising its proposal to construct a 132kV transmission line connecting the existing electricity substations at Manildra and Parkes. Announced in March 2008, the $30 million project is designed to ensure that customers in the Central Slopes and Plains region continue to enjoy a reliable electricity supply.

When undertaking a project such as this, TransGrid faces the challenge of carefully balancing the competing needs of various stakeholders and the wider community.

During the corridor selection process, a preferred corridor of 1-2km in width was identified that provided the best social, environmental, technical and economic option available for the routing of the proposed power line and poles. Subsequently, additional environmental studies were carried out and consultation with landholders were undertaken, prior to an alignment within a 45m wide easement being identified for further engineering and environmental studies. In developing this alignment, all affected landholders were individually consulted during the detailed design and environmental studies of the route.

TransGrid and our environmental consultants URS would like to thank all landholders, community members and interest groups who have attended the public information sessions, met with us and provided valuable feedback to the team since the project was first announced.

The results of the studies were detailed in two Environmental Assessment documents: a Review of Environmental Factors (REF) and a Species Impact Statement (SIS). Both of these documents, in addition to a Summary Document, are provided below.

These documents were on public exhibition during the period 29th July to 27th August 2009. The intent of the exhibition was to give the community an opportunity to review the document and provide final comments on the proposal. Key issues raised in these submissions will be considered by TransGrid before the project is approved.

During the exhibition period, hard copies of the project documents were available for review at the Council offices of Parkes, Cabonne (Molong) and Forbes, as well as the Manildra Post Office Shop, TransGrid offices, the Department of Planning and the Environment Centre. A Summary Document was also prepared and copies were available at the above exhibition venues.

Subject to securing formal environmental approval in accordance with the requirements of Part 5 of NSW Environmental Planning and Assessment Act, TransGrid expects to award a contract for the construction of the power line before the end of the year, with major construction works on site scheduled to commence in March 2010.
