During July 2009, TransGrid completed construction of a brand new $23 million Substation at Wagga North to meet increasing electricity demand in the region.
Construction on the substation commenced over a year ago after more than five years of detailed planning by TransGrid.

The new Wagga North substation will be Wagga’s third bulk supply point for electricity, supplying several of Country Energy’s rural zone substations and providing power to around 14,000 residential and business customers in the Wagga region.
The new substation was built to an accelerated program and is vital to increasing power supply to support the future growth and development in New South Wales’ largest inland city.
The substation site, located adjacent to the existing industrial area in Byrnes Road, provided TransGrid with the opportunity to build in close proximity to both TransGrid and Country Energy’s existing electricity network infrastructure.
During the planning and construction phases there was an emphasis on preserving existing flora including trees that were planted near the construction area as a carbon offset. Consistent with other TransGrid locations, the site will be landscaped with native trees and shrubs which have been selected to increase bio-diversity in the area.
