Grant King

Biography

Grant King was appointed as the Chair of Transgrid in August 2024. He is an experienced public and listed company director and spent more than 30 years as an executive in the Australian energy industry.

Until 2016, Grant was a long-serving Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Origin Energy. He is the Chair of HSBC Bank of Australia, Sydney Water, Arventa, Melanoma Institute of Australia and North Harbour Clean Energy, and a Non-executive Director of the Origin Foundation, Great Barrier Foundation and O’Connell Street Associates. Grant is also Professor of Energy Economics and Chair of the Energy Institute at the University of NSW and a member of its Foundation.

He was formerly Chair of the Climate Change Authority, Green Collar, CWP Renewables, Australia Pacific LNG, Contact Energy, Oil Company of Australia and the Energy Supply Association of Australia, and a previous Director of BHP Billiton and the Australian Petroleum Exploration and Production Association of Australia. He was President of the Business Council of Australia from 2016 to 2019.
