Applications closing soon for $20,000 Transgrid Engineering Scholarships

26 February 2025

Prospective students at Charles Sturt University are encouraged to apply for a $20,000 Transgrid Engineering Scholarship as part of a $2 million program to help shape the future of engineering in regional Australia.

Applications are closing on March 7 for 25 scholarships for first-year engineering students undertaking a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) with Charles Sturt University.

Executive General Manager of Stakeholder, Regulatory and Corporate Affairs Maryanne Graham said: “Transgrid’s Engineering Scholarship Fund is supporting 100 students over six years at CSU’s Bathurst campus, providing vital financial aid as the demand for skilled engineers grows alongside Australia’s clean energy transition.

“By providing $20,000 over four years, we hope to ease the financial burden of study and empower students to focus on building the expertise needed to shape the future renewable energy network.

“This scholarship is an exciting opportunity to support aspiring engineers to play a key role in Australia’s clean energy transition and I encourage prospective students to apply.”

Civil Engineering student and 2024 Transgrid scholarship recipient Ashlee Grentell relocated from her hometown of Wagga Wagga to complete her studies, using some of the funds to meet travel and accommodation costs.

“The Transgrid scholarship has provided me the opportunity to enjoy my studies, encourage my full commitment to the course, and provide a positive mindset for me with a reduced stress environment,” Ms Grentell said.

Fellow Civil Engineering student and 2024 Transgrid scholarship recipient Tom Rogers said the financial security has provided significant benefits including allowing him to live with greater independence in accommodation at the Bathurst campus.

“The Transgrid scholarship has allowed me to pursue things that I may not have been able to otherwise, such as events on campus and some hobbies, making the overall experience more positive for me,” Mr Rogers, from Rutherglen, Victoria, said.

“The scholarship has also helped me with my organisation and scheduling. Not needing to spend as much time working has given me more hours in the day, making it easier to develop an effective and productive schedule for myself.”

Daniel Skrinnikoff, from Orange, is currently undertaking a Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) at the Bathurst campus and has been inspired by the opportunity to receive financial assistance to study in a field he is truly passionate about.

“Transgrid’s Engineering Scholarship has not only made my academic journey easier but has also inspired me to aim higher and strive for success in the field,” Mr Skrinnikoff said.

“I’m looking forward to truly making a difference and contributing meaningfully to the engineering community in the future.”
