Men across Moulamein and surrounding towns are encouraged to prioritise their health and wellbeing at a special event headlined by AFL personalities Brian ‘BT’ Taylor and Matthew ‘Richo’ Richardson.
05 February 2025
The Men’s Health Night, sponsored by Transgrid, will take place at Moulamein Bowling Club on 15 February offering a range of free support services and resources.
BT and Richo will speak about their AFL and media careers, personal experiences and the importance of mental health awareness. Local residents and farmers will have access to free health and wellbeing services, including mental health and alcohol awareness information, skin cancer and blood pressure checks, dental care and even haircuts.
Executive General Manager of Stakeholder, Regulatory and Corporate Affairs Maryanne Graham said Transgrid has proudly provided a grant to help fund the Men’s Health Night under its VNI West Community Partnerships Program.
“Transgrid is pleased to support this worthwhile event supporting men’s health and wellbeing, with a particular focus on the farming sector, while bringing the local community together,” Ms Graham said.
“We encourage men across the Moulamein and Barham areas to take advantage of these free health support services and resources and enjoy a fun and entertaining night with two AFL legends.
“Transgrid is proud to be a part of the local community and provide social and economic benefits through local jobs, supply contracts, education and training opportunities, and funding important events such as this.”
Moulamein Bowling Club General Manager Courtney Atkins said the event will bring much-needed health and support services to the local community.
“We are a not-for-profit organisation and are always keen to give back to the community,” Ms Atkins said.
“We're thrilled to have BT and Richo join us, and we're incredibly grateful for the support from Transgrid and Murray Irrigation, which has made this event possible.”
The event will start at 5pm, with guest speakers from 7.30pm. Entry is $10 with proceeds to go to mental health charity Movember. Free bus transport is available. Food and drinks can be purchased throughout the night. For more information visit www.moulameinbowlingclub.com.au or phone Courtney Atkins on 0429 646 942.
Transgrid is also holding a series of community information sessions for the NSW section of VNI West at Wagga Wagga, Jerilderie, Conargo, Mallan, Moulamein, and Wanganella from February 10-13.
The sessions will outline Transgrid’s progress on the development of the project’s Environmental Impact Statement and share information on technical studies in relation to issues including biodiversity, heritage, water, land, transport, noise and visual amenity. The EIS is expected to go on public exhibition in mid-2025.
The project team will also continue to discuss priorities for community investment and benefits at the sessions.
“Residents, landowners and key stakeholders are encouraged to attend information sessions to help ensure the community continues to have its say on these important issues and help us to plan this critical transmission project,” Ms Graham said.
“VNI West is essential to the delivery of Australia’s energy transition, meeting net zero targets and providing consumers with access to cheaper and cleaner renewable energy.”
