Regional NSW gains second round of community grants program

08 October 2024

Community groups in regional NSW seeking support for local projects and initiatives are being invited to apply for funding through the latest round of Transgrid’s Community Partnerships Program.

Grants of up to $5,000 are available for community groups to deliver lasting benefits with improved services, facilities, activities and events in the Central Tablelands, Hunter, Murray, Riverina, Sunraysia, Southern Highlands regions and parts of the outer south west of Sydney.

“We are committed to making a positive difference and providing tangible and enduring benefits to regional communities,” said Maryanne Graham, Transgrid’s Stakeholder, Regulatory and Corporate Affairs Executive General Manager.

“Local landowners and community members are at the heart of Australia’s clean energy transition, and we know they are critical to the success of our major transmission projects.”

Since 2020, over 275 organisations have shared more than $1 million in grants made available by Transgrid’s Community Partnerships Program. The funding has helped support numerous initiatives, including local school programs and playgrounds, transport for the elderly, community meal delivery organisations, local volunteer groups, sporting groups and venues, community gardens, and First Nations initiatives.

A record number of community organisations already received much needed boosts this year. Among the 61 recipients was the new Tumbarumba Start Strong Preschool, which will be built on a greenfield site at King George V Park, received funding to purchase books for their library.

“Transgrid’s grant has allowed us to buy decent books, educational tools and literacy resources and these will make a huge difference to the children’s learning,” said Ali Grant, a preschool founding committee member.

Uranquity Rural Fire Service used their grant to upgrade fire safety, community education, and firefighter training.

“The Transgrid grant enabled us to buy a smart television, a laptop and Apple TV box for our new training room. It means we can deliver additional training for firefighters and fire safety education for community organisations, local residents and school students,” said Trevor Jansen, Uranquity Rural Fire Service Captain.

Applications for grants of up to $5,000 are open until 8 November 2024. For more information about eligibility and how to apply, click below.
