EnergyConnect

Supplier portal open for EnergyConnect transmission project for NSW

08 December 2020

Businesses wanting to get involved in one of the state’s largest infrastructure projects are now being encouraged to register their interest to work on the NSW component of EnergyConnect.

Suppliers and subcontractors are now able to provide an Expression of Interest with TransGrid’s nominated construction partner SecureEnergy - a joint venture between Spanish company Elecnor and Clough Australia.

“About 1500 jobs will be created once work gets underway on the NSW component of the new 900km interconnector, providing a boost to regional economies,” said TransGrid CEO Paul Italiano.

“Customers will also benefit, with savings of $180 million each year for households if EnergyConnect is built. The project will also inject about $4 billion into the domestic economy, from increased competition in the wholesale electricity market.”

A number of services are needed to help deliver the project, including:

  • Earthmoving plant and equipment
  • General cranage
  • Haulage and trucks
  • Light vehicles
  • Welfare facilities
  • Camps laydown and substation earthworks
  • Elevation, lighting and power plant
  • Specialist cleaning plant

EnergyConnect, recognised by the Federal Government as critical to the National Electricity Market, is expected to generate major benefits for regional communities along the project corridor. Indigenous-owned businesses are also encouraged to register their interest in working on the project.

“Many of the local jobs that will be created from the project will be with local suppliers and subcontractors and any business looking for opportunities with the project should register as soon as possible,” said SecureEnergy Project Director David Whatmough.

“The ICN Gateway registration process is the next step in connecting the project with local businesses and workers and we encourage everyone interested to take this next step.”

The new interconnector project is in the final stages of regulatory approval and a decision is expected soon. Construction on the new transmission line proposed from Robertstown, South Australia to Wagga Wagga is due to commence in late 2021, with EnergyConnect due to be fully commissioned in 2023.

It is free to register on the ICN Gateway site.
