Western Sydney empowerment coach and trailblazing tradeswoman Louise Azzopardi has won the Transgrid Leadership Award at the 2023 Community Achievement Awards for NSW and the ACT.
27 November 2023
The awards encourage, acknowledge and reward the valuable contributions of individuals, communities and businesses making NSW and the ACT a better place.
Ms Azzopardi uses her experiences as a qualified heavy vehicle mechanic to help other tradeswomen overcome obstacles and rise to the next step in their careers.
The Londonderry resident, who embodies leadership through resilience and determination, is a catalyst for cultural change, nurturing a supportive community for tradespeople.
From her initiation into the male-dominated trade at 15, she became a certified trainer and assessor, guiding more than 100 apprentices.
Ms Azzopardi’s commitment extends to coaching tradeswomen through diverse challenges, from mental health issues to workplace dynamics. Her legacy transcends barriers, inspiring women to thrive in non-traditional trades.
Transgrid Senior Manager Engagement and Integration Trish Marinozzi presented Ms Azzopardi with her trophy and $2,000 in prizes at a Gala Presentation Dinner at the Sydney Masonic Centre on Saturday (November 25).
“Transgrid is proud to continue our sponsorship of this prestigious award, shining a light on local role models who through their leadership pave the way for others to follow,” Ms Marinozzi said.
“Ms Azzopardi’s tenacity, dedication and leadership has been a driving force in encouraging other women to thrive in non-traditional trades, increasing female participation and closing the gender gap.
“We are delighted to recognise and celebrate her remarkable achievements and congratulate her on all her successes to date in her stellar career.”
Transgrid would also like to congratulate award finalists Dylan Croall, Joshua Karras, Professor Susan Scott, and Kelly Williams.
