Transgrid rallies graduates to join Australia’s clean energy transition

11 March 2025

Transgrid has launched a recruitment drive for its 2026 Graduate Program, offering final-year university students and recent graduates the opportunity to play a key role in helping to deliver Australia’s renewable energy future.

Executive General Manager of People & Culture at Transgrid Stephen McSweeney said: “The energy landscape is evolving rapidly, and we need innovative, forward-thinking talent as Australia executes one of the world’s most ambitious and rapid clean energy transitions.

“There has never been a more exciting time to work in the energy industry and there’s no better place than Australia’s largest transmission business to gain invaluable knowledge, skills and experience which will help power your future.

“Transgrid is accelerating the energy transition, delivering the transmission projects that are critical to providing access to cheaper, cleaner and more reliable electricity to millions of Australians and achieving our net-zero targets.”

Graduates from a range of disciplines – from engineering and technology to business and project management – are being encouraged to apply for more than 40 available positions in 2026. Successful applicants will join a two-year program, which includes on the job learning with formal training split across four tailored rotations in their given area.

University of New South Wales graduate Abarnika Sivasamy joined Transgrid last year whilst completing a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering (Honours)/Master of Biomedical Engineering as an intern, before later being accepted into the Graduate Program this year.

Miss Sivasamy praised the support she has received in the transition from university to full-time employment.

“The hands-on learning and mentorship from my team ensured that my shift from studying to working full-time was smooth, empowering me to contribute confidently from day one,” she said.

“Transitioning into the workplace can be intimidating, but Transgrid has been so supportive in facilitating this change.

“I definitely see myself building a successful career here, and I’m excited to help deliver Australia’s clean energy future.”

Long Quach joined the Transgrid Graduate Program this year after graduating from the University of New South Wales with a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours).

He said the program is providing a platform to expand his knowledge of Transgrid and the energy sector as a whole.

“The program allows you to get a taste of different roles and parts of the business in a learning environment,” Mr Quach said.

“I appreciate the opportunities for graduates like me to visit the many sites and substations across NSW and to see the energy transition happen first hand.

“I feel like I can put my hand up for any project or task that I’m interested in and get involved, that’s the type of supportive environment Transgrid provides.”

Miss Sivasamy encouraged other graduates to apply to be part of the program and join the rapidly growing transmission network operator.

“The program is well structured, and the teams are very supportive. Everyone I have worked with are wonderful and always willing to answer my questions,” she said.

“Transgrid demonstrates to me that they truly care through their commitment to support and encourage you throughout your journey. I would definitely recommend this pathway to anyone who is considering it.”
