Transgrid has announced the three proponents shortlisted to submit tenders to deliver a critical link in the National Electricity Market - the HumeLink transmission project.

Following an expression of interest in August 2022, Transgrid has invited three reputable Tier 1 Delivery Partners with strong experience in delivering infrastructure projects in Regional NSW to bid for the project’s delivery contracts.
CEO Brett Redman said “Transgrid is taking a major step forward on this critically important transmission project which will help reshape the National Electricity Market. HumeLink, together with Transgrid’s other major transmission projects EnergyConnect and VNI West, are the energy superhighway of the future.
“These massive transmission projects will help deliver cheaper, cleaner and more secure electricity for millions of Australians across the eastern seaboard. They will enable greater integration of more affordable renewable energy generation and support increased sharing between the states - helping the nation to achieve its clean energy targets,” said Mr Redman.
The successful proponents, who have also demonstrated experience in supporting sustainability, local jobs and First Nation participation, will now proceed to the next phase of the selection process:
- Acciona Construction Australia Pty Ltd, Kalpataru Power Transmission Limited and Genus Plus Group Ltd (JV);
- Downer Utilities Australia Pty Ltd and Consolidated Power Projects Australia Pty Ltd (JV); and
- UGL Engineering Pty Ltd.
HumeLink, a new 500kV transmission line in southern NSW, represents a once-in-a-generation investment in the nation’s energy future and will deliver $491 million in net benefits for Australians.
The interconnector and substations will help unlock the full capacity of the Snowy 2.0 project and will link with the new transmission line project EnergyConnect in Wagga Wagga. Construction is underway on EnergyConnect which will enable the integration of new renewables in the State’s south-west and will support energy sharing with South Australia and Victoria.
Planning is also underway for another significant interconnector, VNI West, which will also support greater sharing with Victoria and will connect with EnergyConnect at Gugaa, near Wagga Wagga.
Transgrid is committed to working with local communities and landowners about this important project and recognises the need for continued and timely engagement with all stakeholders.
“We will continue to engage with landowners and stakeholders on HumeLink throughout the project,” said Mr Redman.
The next Community Consultative Group meetings will be held in November, 2022. For more information about the project, go to https://transgrid.com.au/humelink
