Transgrid takes out top training award

12 February 2021

Transgrid's Graduate Program 'Leaders of Tomorrow' has been recognised by Grad Australia as the best in the energy and utilities sector.

The award was selected based on the quality of the training program, graduate satisfaction scores, diversity, culture and how popular it was among students.

Transgrid was also named by Grad Australia as one of Australia's Top 100 Graduate Employers based on feedback from graduates, coming in at number 80 from 570 leading employers.

As part of the 'Leaders of Tomorrow' program 10 to 15 graduates join a two-year immersion program.

Program organiser for Transgrid Janet Okaro said graduates rate the program very highly.

"When we ask graduates about their experience with us, early responsibility, exposure to real-life challenges, and ongoing support from mentors are consistently mentioned as program highlights," Janet said.

Graduates rotate through different business units including engineering, construction and project management teams where they receive formal training and gain valuable on-the-job experience.

Co-organiser Lia Wakim said the program helps equip them to be future leaders in the energy field.

"We're focused on the delivery of an effective program that benefits our people and the organisation and we ensure all our graduates receive the support they need to build a successful career", Lia said.

Janet said the award marks a double celebration, coming in the same week as 13 alumni who completed the 2019-2020 program accepted permanent positions at TransGrid.

"This is a really excellent outcome as we welcome the graduates and we look forward to furthering their success as they continue their journey connecting Australia to a renewable energy future."
