Transgrid to help light up the Murray for Moama Lights

11 July 2022

Transgrid has signed on as major Platinum Partner of Moama Lights - Lighting up the Murray, which is an initiative of the Murray River Council.

It is part of Transgrid’s community engagement for project EnergyConnect a new 900km transmission line which will connect Robertstown in South Australia to Wagga Wagga and Red Cliffs in Victoria.

The Moama Lights event is an immersive sound and light trail extending over 1km through a natural bush setting. The event celebrates Indigenous culture, riverboat heritage, the natural beauty of Horseshoe Lagoon and present day life on the majestic Murray River.

More than 20,000 visitors are expected to experience this year’s event which will feature new stories and never seen before lighting projections and installations.

Moama Lights will be curated by entertainment design firm Mandylights, showcasing local stories through cutting edge lighting displays.

Acting Executive General Manager of Community and Policy, Matthew Percival said the sponsorship is just one of the ways Transgrid is supporting regional communities.

“We’re also proud to partner with Yorta Yorta Nations Corporation in showcasing First Nations music, arts and culture.

“We hope that the Moama Lights event will aid local economic recovery and through our sponsorship we also hope to continue to build on our good relationships with the Murray River Council,” he said.

The Murray River Council has invested heavily in new infrastructure at Horseshoe Lagoon including new pedestrian footbridges and this year will offer a brand new show with a new backdrop.

Murray River Council Acting Mayor, Frank Crawley welcomed the support from Transgrid.

“In partnering with Moama Lights, Transgrid is supporting a longer-term connection with our local region and its people and contributing to the ongoing growth of the local tourism sector.

“Together, we aim to stage an iconic event that generates significant economic benefits and increased destination awareness; so we are pleased to have them on board.”

Transgrid and Murray River Council will be lighting up Moama from 31 July-21 August at Horseshoe Lagoon, with the lights on nightly from 6pm to 9pm.
