Transgrid wins Allan Fels Mental Health Award

29 November 2021

Mental health is an important part of our safety culture at Transgrid and we’re delighted to have won the Allan Fels Mental Health Award at the 2021 Australian HR Institute Awards.

The award recognises organisations that work to improve understanding, awareness and the general mental health of their workforce and the wider community.

Transgrid recognises that a mentally healthy workplace benefits everyone; our people, our business and the broader community.

We’re committed to promoting mental wellbeing, minimising workplace risks to mental health, supporting our employees experiencing a mental health issue and reducing the stigma associated with mental health.

Transgrid came out on top against some major competition including Coles and the Australian tax office. The award recognises all elements of Transgrid’s mental health program as outstanding.

The judges were impressed by Transgrid's initiatives that include Thrive, our wellbeing platform and our Workmates Program which offers peer to peer support for our workforce.

Diversity Inclusion and Wellbeing Manager Julie Moss accepted the award on Transgrid’s behalf.

“This has been a whole of company effort. Thank you to our executive team who have wholeheartedly supported the view that psychological safety is as important as physical safety – and to the People and Culture and Health and Safety teams who collaborated to bring all the moving parts together.

“Big thanks go especially to all of our Workmates volunteers, over 60 of you, who play such an important role every day in providing peer support to colleagues when they need it most.

“Transgrid can be extremely proud of this achievement,” Julie said.

The award is named after Professor Allan Fels AO, the Chairman of the National Mental Health Commission, who serves or has served on several government advisory boards in the field of mental health.

Professor Fels praised Transgrid’s efforts in working to encourage discussion about mental health.

“I want to congratulate Transgrid because what they have put up are proposals about helping build the foundations for successfully dealing with the challenges of mental health in the workplace. Congratulations”, he said.

Well done to everyone who has worked on our mental health program.
