Russell Morris appointed as TransGrid CIO

31 January 2018

TransGrid, the manager and operator of the New South Wales high-voltage electricity transmission network, has appointed Russell Morris as its new Chief Information Officer (CIO), reporting to Executive Manager Corporate Services, Chris Pemberton.

Mr Morris joins TransGrid from Northern Powergrid, a UK-based Berkshire Hathaway Energy company where he had been the Head of IT for the past five years.

Northern Powergrid is responsible for the network that delivers electricity to 3.9 million homes and businesses across 10,000km2 of England’s North East, Yorkshire and northern Lincolnshire counties.

Mr Pemberton said Mr Morris would be a valuable leader as the organisation transforms its IT function and continues to manage the volume of data and technical support that come with the operation of the state’s high-voltage transmission network, which includes more than 13,000km of high-voltage transmission lines and 100 substations.

“We are delighted to have Russell join the team. He brings more than 20 years of IT leadership experience in the UK energy industry, and his fresh perspective will be invaluable as we look to drive innovation in managing the transmission network efficiently and reliably,” Mr Pemberton said.

Mr Morris said: “I’m excited to continue my career in the energy industry at a time when disruptive technologies, including renewable energies and energy efficiency, are impacting top priorities for energy leaders globally.”
