Building the future grid

TransGrid delivers lowest cost, wholesale electricity by operating efficiently and investing in new infrastructure and maintenance of its assets. We are securing supply by building a stronger future network for our customers.

Our Major Projects

The Powering Sydney’s Future project will ensure a safe, reliable and affordable electricity supply for Sydney’s CBD and surrounding areas. A new transmission cable will be installed from Potts Hill to Alexandria.

Construction works commenced in August 2020 and are set to be completed by late-2022.

TransGrid is partnering with ElectraNet to deliver EnergyConnect - a 900 km energy interconnector between South Australia and New South Wales, with an added connection to Victoria.

This will enable the sharing of energy between NSW and SA, lower wholesale energy costs and support growth in renewable energy generation.

HumeLink is a new 500 kV transmission line project that will improve the flow of electricity between new generation sources and major demand centres in NSW.

Reinforcing the southern transmission network will also allow new energy sources to come online, and unlock the full capacity of the expanded Snowy Hydro Scheme.

Upgrading the Victoria-NSW Interconnector (VNI) will allow cheaper generation to be transferred between the two states.

This will help lower the cost of wholesale electricity across the National Electricity Market and put downward pressure on customer bills.

The Queensland-NSW Interconnector (QNI) upgrade will boost interstate transmission capacity and increase power flow on existing lines.

This will make it easier and more efficient to share power generation across the National Energy Market, which will help put downward pressure on customer bills.
