Work will soon commence on the Powering Sydney’s Future project to ensure safe, reliable and affordable electricity supply for more than 800,000 people living and working in Sydney’s CBD and surrounding areas.

Construction to commence on major electricity project to ensure supply

“The NSW Government has fast tracked this project because Sydney’s peak electricity demand is expected to continue to grow, driven largely by the NSW Government’s record infrastructure investment and the city’s population growth,” he said.
“Powering Sydney’s Future will meet the energy needs of the nation’s largest economy.”
TransGrid has been working with communities, local councils and other stakeholders since 2017 on the project, to install a new 20 kilometre 330kV underground circuit from Potts Hill to Alexandria and upgrade substations at Potts Hill, Alexandria and Picnic Point.
Sydney’s CBD and surrounding areas are currently supplied by electricity cables installed more than 50 years ago, which are now reaching the end of their serviceable life and they will be replaced with new 330kV cables.
The Powering Sydney’s Future project, approved by the Australian Energy Regulator in May 2018, is due for completion by November 2022. For more information about the project, visit: http://www.transgrid.com.au/psf
